The Birches at Arbour Square Breaks Ground on New Assisted Living Community

Ground Breaking CeremonyConstruction of a new 69-unit assisted living community has begun on the campus of Arbour Square, which currently consists of an independent living retirement community, located in Harleysville, PA.  The Birches at Arbour Square will also include a dedicated unit for the care of memory impaired residents and, together with the independent building will provide residents a continuum of care on this rental campus.   The groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the construction of The Birches was held on June 19, 2008 at 10:30 a.m.

David Lovitz, President of Heritage Senior Living, LLC presided over the groundbreaking ceremony.     Additionally, John Mershon, President, Westrum Development Company, Kevin McCollum, Vice President, Heritage Senior Living, architect Jack Parry, developer Mike McCormick, and Renee Ackerman, Executive Director of Arbour Square joined the groundbreaking crew in making the first “dig” to celebrate this project.

"Adding the Assisted Living component to our community will allow our residents to move to a higher level of care when they need it without leaving the campus," said John Mershon, President of Westrum Development Company. "The Assisted Living building will have the same look and feel as our Independent Living building and will provide the same high quality of services they now receive at Arbour Square, located on the same campus."

“Our goal has been to provide an affordable option for moderate and middle income seniors in this area," added David Lovitz, President of Heritage Senior Living. "Our community has month-to-month leases but does not have the large buy-in fees that many other retirement communities require."

The Birches at Arbour Square will be comprised of 69 studio and one bedroom apartments and will feature beautifully appointed commons areas, a movie theater, beauty parlor, library, physical fitness facility, and rehabilitation and physical therapy rooms.   Residents will enjoy three meals per day served restaurant style in the dining room, an activities room, and a computer lab, where residents can engage in a brain fitness program.

Completion of The Birches at Arbour Square is scheduled for late spring, 2009.  As with Arbour Square, apartments at The Birches can be leased on a month to month basis without an entrance fee.
